Linton Primary School

Our Curriculum

Linton Primary School provides an exciting learning environment for children, most of whom have additional needs. Our curriculum framework provides engaging learning opportunities for all pupils at different stages of development and taught in mixed age classes.

We are a highly motivated staff team who are committed to providing learning which will equip all our children with the knowledge and basic skills needed for them to succeed in life. Our success lies in understanding that each child sees the world and learns in a different way, and we therefore provide personalised learning experiences to ensure that every child is challenged and supported to overcome barriers to learning, through flexible teaching approaches informed by specialist knowledge.

The curriculum at Linton respects and reflects the National Curriculum through the teaching of the full range of subjects, however is contextualised to our school and the entitlement of learners, allowing space and time for the thorough development of basic skills and core knowledge, alongside the careful integration of specific approaches and interventions.

Governors and staff collaborate closely to drive the school vision forward. Our curriculum philosophy is holistic. We provide first hand, purposeful learning experiences and nurture each individual child to develop the knowledge and skills they need to influence their health, wellbeing and to succeed in life. Our curriculum is enriched by forest school sessions and educational visits..

We are determined to ensure the same inclusive ambition for all pupils regardless of background or starting point, addressing social disadvantage for pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium Funding, Looked After Children and those in receipt of additional social care support due to socio economic disadvantage or disadvantage due to SEND diagnosis. Our curriculum offer is open to all pupils regardless of gender, race, cultural background or religion. School works hard to discriminate positively on behalf of pupils to compensate for barriers due to any diagnosis of SEND.

We are committed to the health and wellbeing of our school community, having a clear focus on pupil physical, emotional and social development as well as on their academic success. Our curriculum is continually evolving as we work with pupils, families and other partners to proactively and creatively respond to reflect the high level of need in our dynamic pupil cohort.

The role of adults in the curriculum process is to help pupils learn more and remember more. Active learning, and a focus on remembering rather than recording, increases the focus and retention of the curriculum content, resulting in an exciting  and worthwhile learning experience.Â
