History

Our history topics give pupils an understanding of local, British and the World’s past.  Pupils are encouraged to ask questions and understand complexity of people’s lives, change over time and their own identity. They should note connections, contrasts and trends over time. We teach our pupils to use historical terms in their work.

The National Curriculum requires history to be taught chronologically. We have planned the distribution of Key Stage 2 curriculum with Bothal Middle School so pupils cover the requirements within Years 3 -6.

Programme of Study
Key stage 2
  • Britain from the Stone Age to Iron Age
  • Roman Empire and its impact on Britain
  • Britain’s settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots
  • Viking and Anglo-Saxons to the time of Edward the Confessor
  • Local history study
  • Ancient Greece

We use a wide range of resources in our work, including computer simulations, on line sites, BBC Learning Zone clips, reference books and artefacts.

We have a comprehensive programme of visits so pupils can experience historical sites and put learning into context.
