Computing

We aim to create responsible, competent, confident, safe and creative users of ICT.

We also work to introduce computer science to the children so then can begin to learn how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.

Computing has many links to mathematics, science and design technology.

E-safety is fundamental to our work and children are taught about this at the beginning of each academic year so they are well prepared when working online.

Programme of Study
Year 3 & Year 4
  • Design, write and debug programs
  • Use sequences, work with variables and various forms of input and output
  • Use logical reasoning
  • Understand computer networks
  • Use search engines
  • Use a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content
  • Collect, analyse, evaluate and present data and information
  • Use technology safely and respectfully through e-safety programmes
  • Identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact online

We use Northumberland County Council’s ‘Teaching Computing in the Primary School’ guidance to plan our curriculum and the three aspects of this scheme of work are:

  • Computer science
  • Information Technology
  • Digital literacy

For our e-safety work we use a range of teaching materials, from the Think-U-Know website. Each programme is age appropriate and we use Hector’s World and Smart Crew, alternating each over our two year cycle so pupils are not repeating a program.

We have a wide range of ICT equipment for the children to use. We have 2 PC’s in Class 2, digital camera, Tuff- cams, 2 Probot programmable robots, data loggers, digital thermometers and access to a further 10 laptops.
